ANIWANIWA
Venice Biennale, 2007
Brett Graham and Rachael Rakena have had their multi-media collaboration ANIWANIWA accepted for exhibition at the 52nd Venice Biennale, Collateral Events Aniwaniwa is a sculptural and video installation exploring the idea of submersion as a metaphor for cultural loss. It tells the story of Horahora, a village on the Waikato River where Brett Graham?s father was born, which was flooded to create a new dam at Lake Karapiro.
Curator Alice Hutchison worked with two prominent Italian curators; Venice based, Camilla Seibezzi and Milan-based Milovan Farronato, to submit the project for inclusion in the collateral exhibitions. This is a section of the Biennale which shows public museum quality projects chosen by Robert Storr, the Artistic Director of the Venice Biennale. The project has been generously supported by Nga Pae o te Maramatanga, the National Institute of Research and Excellence for Maori Development and Advancement, Massey Univerisity, Te Wananga o Aotearoa and Te Puni Kokiri, the Ministry of Maori Development. The work is on the way to Venice and a venue secured but further funding is still required for the 16 week exhibition.
Three film stills from Aniwaniwa are available in edition of 50 at $1250 (including GST)
Further stills are available in edition 10 for $2,200 (including GST)

The Arrival
September 26 - October 21 2006
The Arrival is an international exploration of cultural adaptation, upheaval and displacement, either by imposition or choice. Contemplating the rippling after-effects of more than two centuries of cultural migration, this exhibition examines the implications of arrivals into new worlds, journeys to old, and the contemplation of unfamiliar frontiers.
