The Residency

The Two Rooms Residency Program has been established in 2006 to provide New Zealand and International artists with the opportunity to work in Auckland for a period of up to three months.

The purpose is to support ambitious and experimental projects and the commissioning of new works. Visiting artists are encouraged to make links with New Zealand artists and arts organizations in order to promote an exchange of ideas and practice between International and New Zealand artists.

The gallery spaces may be available for an exhibition but it is not a prerequisite of the residency, however the artist is expected to hold an open studio during the residency to present works in progress and make available some works to sell in New Zealand through Two Rooms.

Facilities

The Studio is 100sq m, includes bathroom, shower, kitchen, and basic furnishing such as desks, chairs and storage facilities. Other facilities can be provided on request. There is access to office equipment such as photocopiers, fax, telephone and computer and wireless Internet is available in the building. Studio costs are covered and Two Rooms offers a per diem for materials and living costs. Accommodation is provided off site.

Two Rooms can also provide contacts to technical organisations for photographic printing, video editing and dark room facilities.

Applications and Selection

The program is open to artists who work in all media. Priority, however, will be given to artists from curatorial referral and mid career artists involved in high quality art practice. There are three residencies available per year.

Electronic applications of up to 1 MByte will be accepted and should include a proposal for the residency project and the preferred dates. Those artists selected will be asked to provide either a curatorial or academic reference.

The selection committee meets every three months and will provide a contract three months prior to the residency start date.
